Sugar Blue Burlesque

As mentioned in my last post I have recently started a beginner’s burlesque course through Sugar Blue Burlesque. I first became interested in burlesque when I saw a performance at a music festival in Scotland and I instantly loved the vintage glamour and the sexy cheekiness of the performers.

Sugar Blue Burlesque is both a performance troupe and burlesque academy based in Perth, Western Australia. The only classes of their kind in Perth, Sugar Blue Burlesque’s short courses are energetic and fun.

The CC is currently participating in the Beginner’s Burlesque Dance course, and is learning to shimmy, shake, bump and grind her way through the classic burlesque moves and to use the tools of tease, including feather boas, canes, gloves and chairs.  The group is also learning a routine to perform at a Sugar Blue Burlesque live show.

Not only am I learning a few new moves for the boudoir, but this is also a great workout! As Sugar Blue Burlesque says, come down and shape up the way the showgirls do it! These classes fill up very quickly though so make sure you book early.

Busts 4 Justice

The curvaceous connoisseur this week applauds a story out of the UK where people power forced one of Britain’s biggest department stores to change its underwear pricing policy after over 17,000 people joined a Facebook group protesting Marks & Spencer’s practice of charging customers more for larger cup sizes.

The Busts 4 Justice campaign was started by Beckie Williams, who wears a 30G bra,  after M&S failed to respond to her complaints about a so called ‘tit-tax’ of approximately £2 ($4) imposed on bras larger than a DD cup.

Whilst M&S does offer one of the most comprehensive and competitively priced DD+ collections on the high street, Busts 4 Justice refused to accept its explanation that the increased price was due to special design features such as wider straps, greater support in the cup and additional material around the back area to ensure the delicate breast tissue is properly supported and protected.

In a win for the power of social networking, the Facebook group successfully argued that retailers do not charge more for larger sizes in any other clothing item and that this one-price-fits-all policy must also be applied to lingerie.  We are pleased to hear that, as of 9 May 2009, no matter what size bra you buy from M&S, the price will be the same.

Check out Busts 4 Justice and, whilst you’re there, why not join Sablier’s Facebook page? Together we can make things better for busty women everywhere!
